Alfalite brings its LED technology to RTVE’s iconic Teatro Monumental

Alfalite, Europe’s only LED display manufacturer, has completed a new broadcast installation with the deployment of two UHD Finepix 1.5 MATIX AlfaCOB LED displays at RTVE’s Teatro Monumental in Madrid (Spain). The project was supplied and integrated by BroadService, Alfalite’s technology partner specializing in professional audiovisual solutions.

RTVE, Spain’s national public broadcaster, operates some of the country’s most important television, radio and cultural productions. Teatro Monumental is one of its key venues in Madrid and the home of the RTVE Symphony Orchestra and Choir. The theatre also hosts live music productions, television recordings, special broadcasts and corporate events, making it a demanding environment where performance, broadcast quality and day-to-day technical reliability must work together.

The installation equips the historic venue with two 3.00 x 1.69-metre LED displays positioned on either side of the main stage. Designed to meet the requirements of both television production and stage use, the new visual surfaces allow RTVE to incorporate graphics, visual identities, live feeds, text and audiovisual content into concerts, special programmes and corporate events.

As the regular home of the RTVE Symphony Orchestra and Choir, as well as productions such as Las Noches del Monumental, RTVE’s live music series recorded at the venue, and other formats recorded or broadcast live, Teatro Monumental required a solution capable of integrating naturally into a setting where artistic performance, television production and continuous technical operation coexist.

The Alfalite displays meet demanding broadcast specifications aimed at ensuring a clean on-camera image, free from flicker and visual artefacts, with high colour uniformity, wide viewing angles, full front maintenance and silent operation — all key factors in stage and television environments.

Each display offers Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels in a 16:9 format, with a 1.5 mm pixel pitch, combining high visual density with precise image reproduction even at short viewing distances. The system features a 7,680 Hz refresh rate, brightness of up to 1,500 nits, a 20,000:1 contrast ratio and wide colour coverage, parameters that are especially relevant for clean camera capture without flicker, moiré or other common artefacts in broadcast environments.

The installation was also designed for discreet architectural integration, with the displays flush-mounted into the side cladding of the stage area and with a very reduced overall depth. Full front access simplifies technical interventions without the need for rear access, a significant advantage in permanent installations where operational uptime is essential.

Another aspect particularly valued by RTVE was the silent, fanless operation of the system — an essential feature for symphonic concerts, music recordings and live broadcasts where any mechanical noise could interfere with the acoustic experience.

“RTVE had very specific requirements for this installation: excellent on-camera performance, discreet integration into the stage environment and maximum reliability for continuous use. Meeting that level of expectation in a venue such as Teatro Monumental is particularly meaningful for Alfalite,” said Luis Garrido, Executive Director of the Huelva-based company.

Garrido added: “Teatro Monumental brings together culture, television and live events. That is precisely where our displays deliver the greatest value: when the image has to perform equally well for the audience in the venue, for the broadcast production team and for a demanding day-to-day operation.”

The RTVE project covered the supply, installation and commissioning of two high-performance LED videowalls, as well as the control electronics required for their operation and associated technical training. The specification also included requirements for intensive 24/7 operation, long service life and advanced remote management and calibration tools.

With this new installation, Alfalite strengthens its presence in the broadcast market and further consolidates the use of its LED technology in theatres, auditoriums, studios and institutional spaces where visual quality and operational reliability are critical.
