EasyBroadcast Explores the Benefits of Hybrid CDN-V2V Live Streaming and MSHLS Algorithm in New White Paper

NANTES, France — June 14, 2022 — EasyBroadcast, a leading provider of end-to-end streaming solutions and technologies for TV channels, OTT service providers, and enterprises, today released a white paper discussing the advantages of viewer-to-viewer (V2V) content distribution for live video streaming. By leveraging a hybrid CDN-V2V distribution model, combined with a new ABR algorithm developed by EasyBroadcast, video service providers can reduce the strain on CDN servers while maintaining outstanding video quality in line with client download speeds. The white paper is now available for download on the EasyBroadcast website.

“With the global acceleration of live streaming, OTT service providers need a content distribution model that helps them meet stringent QoS requirements, especially during the peak hours of prime time and sports events,” said Soufiane Rouibia, CEO at EasyBroadcast. “Through the white paper, we’re excited to show how the hybrid CDN-V2V model furthers EasyBroadcast’s goal of improving streaming experiences for both content providers and viewers.”

The white paper examines the results of a three-part study EasyBroadcast conducted on CDN-V2V live streaming. To optimize buffering speed, EasyBroadcast ran its newly developed Multi-Source HTTP Live Streaming (MSHLS) ABR algorithm through several experimental conditions, all of which had various upload and download capacities for clients. With no restrictions, the MSHLS resulted in much fewer fluctuations compared with the default HLS. In addition, MSHLS gave nearly all viewers a medium viewing quality in-line with their network link characteristics, whereas HLS placed half of all viewers in the smallest quality category.

Ultimately, both the hybrid model and the new algorithm outperformed the default CDN-only system and default HLS. EasyBroadcast’s CDN-V2V live streaming protocol improves data traversal in the networks, reduces chunk loss rate, decreases fluctuations in video streaming quality, and increases V2V streaming efficiency. MSHLS achieves this by taking into account the variability of streaming due to downloads from other viewers, empowering content providers to deliver an exceptional QoE and QoS for live streaming services.
